Who is the guy behind the Conway NOW Facebook page? One of the most popular Facebook pages in Conway belongs to Gatlin Billeck, a 19-year-old graduate of Conway High School.
When describing himself, Gatlin told Conway Scene, “I’ve been a Conwegian for 15 years. I am a tea and coffee loving person. I love all the local businesses here and I try to shop at them as much as I can. I’m going to College at UACCM starting in August to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.”
We caught up with Gatlin to learn more about him, his Facebook page and what he wants to do in the future.
What led you to start Conway NOW?
My love for the city, news, weather and so much more. And, when I watched the local news I never really heard a lot on Conway, so I wanted to change that.
What are your long term goals for the Conway NOW?
Long term goals include getting partnerships with local businesses, start a Facebook Live newscast, and getting news out there faster than current speeds.
What are your goals for the future, personally?
My goal is to actually become a nurse in the future. I will begin college at UACCM in August. For work, I’m looking for something I like but I want to work in public safety (like a 911 operator).
How were you able to grow your Facebook likes so much in a short amount of time?
I began telling administration at Conway High School when I was almost done with my sophomore year of high school. Then, from there, people began catching on that Conway NOW existed and sharing the information we shared. It was from word of mouth for the most part.
What have you learned from running Conway NOW?
Doing this is sometimes not an easy task. For example, with all the flooding going on, I was getting calls and messages at 3 or 4 in the morning. That isn’t easy, but if it is serious someone has to get the news out there. I’ve also learned that running a small business like this is hard but if you put time and effort into it, it becomes fun.
Wrapping it up
Conway is fortunate to have some young self-starters and entrepreneurs and Gatlin is one of those young people. He helps get the important news out for our town and is a true Conwegian.
