Business

Wholesome Bread

How long has your business been in operation?

One year

What have been some of your biggest challenges and how did you overcome those?

Wholesome Bread

My biggest challenge so far has been uncertainty. I wasn’t sure when I started if I would be capable if other people would like my baked goods as much as me and my family– if it would even be worth doing– and all sorts of other things.

To overcome it I kept my hands moving anyway. If I felt discouraged I just looked for the next task until I could get some wind in my sails again.

Another challenge has also been learning to bake while taking care of kids. I have a 4-year old, and on baking days I also babysit a 2-year-old and a six-month-old.

Baking day on its own is an 18-hour ordeal, but with kids in the mix, it’s a welcome challenge. I’ve adapted by developing a very strong sense of time management and scheduling.

I have checkpoints throughout the day that I would like to hit around certain times, and I set hourly goals depending on what the kids need and how the day is going. The day has become much easier to manage, and, as I said, it’s a welcome challenge.

Who has been your biggest supporter(s) for your business?

My grandma. She insists on buying as much as she can when I have leftovers and keeps every tag she’s ever pulled off one of my muffins tied to a basket on her refrigerator.

She’s a strong, loving, kind, encouraging, and godly woman, and I am proud to be her granddaughter. I strive to live up to the example she sets.

What are you looking forward to in the next few years in business?

I look forward to growing the farmer’s market and showing Conway how great our local farm and cottage food scene is!
