CONWAY — The original new musical “Something Rotten!” will debut at Reynolds Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas.
Nominated for 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, this national Broadway tour of “Something Rotten!” is set in the 1590’s, long before the dawn of premium tickets, star casting and reminders to turn off cell phones.
With music and lyrics by Grammy Award® winner Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe Award® nominee Karey Kirkpatrick, and a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and best-selling author John O’Farrell, this hilarious musical comedy tells the story of brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, two playwrights stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rockstar Will Shakespeare. When a soothsayer foretells the next big thing in theatre involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time, the Bottom brothers set out to write the world’s very first musical.
The production is directed and choreographed by Tony Award® winner Casey Nicholaw (“The Book of Mormon,” “Mean Girls”).
“It’s always exciting to have a very recent Broadway show at Reynolds. This production closed on Broadway in 2017 and hasn’t been touring long, so it’s very fresh and relevant,” said Amanda Horton, director of Reynolds Performance Hall. “If you love musicals and comedies, then this is the show for you.
