UCA to Welcome Artist-in-Residence Violinist Min Yen Chien

CONWAY — The University of Central Arkansas will host violinist Min Yen Chien as an artist-in-residence Wednesday, Feb. 12 through Saturday, Feb. 15.

Since 1986, Min Yen has been a professor of violin and chamber music at the Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan and has trained many talented students to pursue careers in professional music. He explores the relationship between the violin and the muscular-skeletal system and is committed to studying the prevention of muscle overuse or misuse.

Min Yen will begin his time at UCA with a violin masterclass on Wednesday, Feb. 12, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, from 1:40 to 2:30 p.m., Min Yen will lecture on injury prevention in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. From 3 to 3:50 p.m., Min Yen will rehearse with the UCA Orchestra in the Snow Fine Arts Band Room. Immediately following, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., Min Yen will hold a chamber music masterclass in the Snow Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Min Yen will spend the remainder of his time on campus with the Conway Symphony Orchestra. On Friday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m., and again on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 2:30 p.m., he will participate in rehearsals at Reynolds Performance Hall.

A Conway Symphony Orchestra public performance featuring Min Yen will take place on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m., in Reynolds Performance Hall. A reception will follow. Ticket prices range from $20 to $40 per person. Students with a valid UCA ID get free admission.
