Shana Mullaney fitness instructor

Conway Institute of Music

This month we are featuring Shana Mullaney, fitness instructor extraordinaire in Conway.

A couple of weeks ago, I asked the question on Facebook about favorite fitness instructors. The response blew me away. I got lots of replies and one lady kept coming up, Shana Mullaney

As fate would have it, I met her earlier this year at the UCA Women’s Business Showcase. I even took a picture of her.

How long have you been a personal trainer?

I have been a full-time personal trainer for 7 years. I have been in the fitness industry since 2001. I started with group classes by getting my certification from AFFA group fitness.  In 2011 I received my Personal Trainers certification from NASM.

I am also a Nutrition and Weight Loss Specialist as well as a Corrective Exercise Specialist.

I have several other certifications if you would like me to send them to you I would be happy to.

What is your favorite thing about being a personal trainer?

I love helping people change their lives. Not only on the outside but on the inside. Knowing that I played a part in them leading a healthy life makes me happy. I’m also a Corrective Exercise Specialist. This allows me to help people recover from injuries. I love working to help people to move without pain and teach them how to avoid future injuries.

What was the one thing that made you decide to be a personal trainer?

I have always loved fitness and working out with people. I played sports all through high school and continued to work out and stay active throughout college so it was just natural for me to move into the industry.

What have been some of your biggest challenges and how did you overcome those?

Owning your own business is always a bit of a challenge and a leap of faith. When I decided to leave corporate America I was relying on God to help me find my people and He has. My husband is my biggest supporter and he believed that I could make this happen. I have been very fortunate and people have found me when they needed me. I hope that makes sense.

What are you looking forward to in the next year in business?

Of course, I want to build my business and bring on new clients but I also want to continue to be the best for my current clients. I have some exciting things coming up with several of my clients helping them cross some items off of their bucket lists. Stay tuned for that!

I will also be taking some new classes and getting 3 new certifications.

There is so much to learn in this industry and I want to know it all. Or at least as much I can.
