The year 2018 has seen a lot of successful articles for Conway Scene. Additionally, I added a couple of young professionals to the family which has made our little site enjoy growth it otherwise wouldn’t have.
Wells Thompson joined the team in the early part of the year and went to work giving us some fantastic articles. Many of the articles in this top ten list come from Wells!
In the fall, I was honored to meet Lauren Norris. Lauren has helped out hugely with social media. All of our stellar Instagram posts come from her.ย Additionally, Lauren takes care of our graphics and our event guides we put out each month.
Now, let’s take a look at our top ten articles for 2018.
How WunderHaus Is Setting The Standard For Local Restaurants
Written by Wells Thompson, this article shows the commitment of the restaurant owners to local businesses, sustainability, and farm to table food. WunderHaus has scores of raving fans. Additionally, we have seen WunderHaus significantly contribute to the local community as they involved themselves in Toad Suck Daze and even launched the first annual Winter Market just a few weeks ago.
Townsend Finds Her Way Back Home After Loss
One of my favorite things about 2018 was getting to know Townsend and having the honor of sharing her story. A year ago, she was thinking about performing again and by the end of the year, not only had she played regularly at places such as Round Mountain Coffee and Taylorโs Made, but she also performed at the Freedom Fest in the Summer and Illuminate the Saturday after Thanksgiving. She also has released a CD!
Freedom Fest Hosts Fireworks On June 30
Speaking of Freedom Fest, Conway Scene had the honor of highlighting the annual event hosted by City Church. I enjoyed getting to know Ragan Huse and learning more about this Summer event in Conway.
Jessica Jones Dispels The Idea Of A Starving Artist In Conway
We have several great full-time artists in Conway. Jessica Jones is one of those. No, she is not the superhero of Marvel fame, but she is a superhero artist helping businesses find their creative spark. You can see her work at places like Streetside Creperie, WunderHaus, Urban Society Salon, Kingโs Live Music, COLOR Beauty Bar and so many more. I hope to do more stories about other local artists in 2019. Thisย article another one of Wells Thompson’s fantastic articles.
Why Streetside Creperie Makes Is Making Conway A Better Place To Live
Spencer Pearson and Leslie Waterson have created a fantastic experience in downtown Conway thatย has captured the hearts of many Conwegians.ย The crepes are delightful and they use locally sourced ingredients for everyone. Writer Wells Thompson captured the heart of Streetside Creperie’s core values as well the little piece of Paris we possess here in Conway.
DiAnka Moton Encourages And Inspires With L.A. Beauty Bar
In a little over a year, DiAnka has created and run a very successful beauty bar providing premium virgin hair needs as well as makeup consultation. DiAnka is actually a business neighbor of mine, so I get to see firsthand how hard she works and her satisfied customers. She named her boutique LA Beauty Bar – the LA stands for Love Always.
The Studio Downtown Is Set To Open Cowork Space In June
For several months, many in Conway anticipated the opening of the cityโs latest co-working space. For Kate Carnahan and Silverlake Designsโ Jessica Crum, this was the fulfillment of a few years old vision. The co-working space is designed to be collaborative and to encourage creative inspiration.
Shana Mullaney Fitness Instructor
We ask questions on Facebook sometimes (really, you should pay attention). Earlier this year, I asked who everyoneโs favorite fitness trainer is. I was blown away by the number of people who mentioned Shanaโs name. So, I knew we had to feature her on the site.
Meet Your Barista: Becca Snider
We went all-in on the Meet your Barista articles this year, and I think it turned out fantastic. The article about Becca Snider made our top ten list. Becca was the operations manager at Zeteo Coffee in Conway at the time. Becca worked for two years at Zeteo and was a staple at the shop. Sheโs a fan of making pour overs and loves the honey lavender latte.
Urban Society Salon Opens In Downtown Conway Friday
I enjoy meeting young entrepreneurs. Ethan and Brianne Reed are the owners of Urban Society Salon in downtown Conway. Ethan graduated from the Innovation & Entrepreneurship program at UCA. Brianne worked with the Paul Mitchell school in Little Rock as an instructor. Together, they launched a new venture in a renovated space on Oak Street,ย fulfilling their dream of owning their own business.
Events Guides
We added the events guides in the late part of the year as a brainchild of Lauren’s. They are easily some of the most viewed pages on the website.ย The most popular guides are ones that are holiday-specific, like Halloween and Christmas.
